Did you know, the F-16 Fighting Falcon has the second best air-to-air kill ratio on the entire globe, after the F-15 Eagle. From its first air-to-air kill in 1981 to this day, the F-16s have shot down some 71 to 76 enemy aircraft, with a total of 3 air-to-air losses, but the losses here are not what you think. Although more than a dozen F-16s have been shot down since the desert storm, but during these 21 years, only 3 air-to-air losses have been confirmed, and guess what. Only one of them was a true air-to-air kill, when the Greek Mirage 2000 shot down a Turkish F-16 in 1996, so what about the other 2 losses? Those 2 air-to-air losses actually occured during a collision, and came from Greece and Turkey, oh I mean this one! On May 23 2006, a mock dog fight between Turkish and Greek F-16s took place over the Aegean Sea, and aircraft from both sides ended up on the surface, following a collision. The Turkish pilot safely ejected, but the Greek pilot lost his life. So, only one F-16 has been lost since its first flight in 1974.
