Installation video covering installation and setup of Mint on a Dell XPS 8960 which has a 13th Generation Intel Processor and a UEFI BIOS with Secure Boot. In this video, I update to the latest BIOS revision from USB. The latest BIOS updates will address Linux Boot Issues on newer hardware.
I also examine the UEFI BIOS setup, and change the Storage Controller Operation to NVMe/AHCI (where each internal drive acts independently) from RAID (which groups internal drives alongside Intel processor technologies into an Intel VMD). The Intel VMD requires an Intel VMD Linux Kernel Driver which is not available and therefore the drives must be used independently. I also look at Data Wipe. I also look at creating a Bootable USB on both Windows and Linux and go through the install.

Linux Mint 22 is a Ubuntu 24.04 LTS based distribution and has the same driver support as its base distribution. The main two differences are the desktop environment and the package manager; Mint uses the Cinnamon Desktop environment instead of GNOME and the Flatpak package manager instead of the Snap package manager. The GNOME desktop environment is optimised for the new Wayland display protocol which has more support for multiple screens, of different resolutions and different scaling factors making it more suitable for modern 2 in 1 touchscreen devices. The Cinnamon Desktop environment is optimised for the legacy X11/XOrg display protocol which is more suitable for simpler systems such as non-touchscreen laptops or desktops with a single or multiple monitors of the same resolution. The Cinnamon Desktop environment is lighter and will perform better on older hardware.

This video should be applicable to most Dell systems with a UEFI SMBIOS of 3.0 or newer (6th Generation Intel Processor or Newer, Manufactured Post Late 2015). The BIOS Setup will differ slightly from system to system.
