Episode 1: Favourite Son

This is the first episode of my little miniseries made in LittleBigPlanet 3 that retells the story of Joseph from the Bible! Voice acting is credited in the last episode. This is Episode 1 of 5.

In this episode, we're introduced to Joseph and his family. We see Joseph having some interesting dreams and his father's clear favouritism for him, as well as how those things wear down his brothers' patience. Watch the episode to see how things kick off!

== Behind the Scenes Ramble ==

This was a fun project to make, though it had some growing pains that are most visible in this episode. I was very familiar with the creation tools of LBP before making this, but I was a bit rusty by the time I started working on this and I had never used the animation tools before. It was a treat to discover them and realise how much more expressive and animated I could make scenes with them, then also became a nightmare when I realised the limitations of trying to get them to run two or three at a time. Even just making a character talk with them causes them to drop all walking or jumping animations, which unfortunately slipped into this due to time constraints before I really knew how to fix it, or at least work around it. So character animations are a little stilted or stiff at times, but they do get better.

I might as well also say now that the voice acting was almost all volunteered by the church youth. I handled casting and directing and I didn't really have a lot of time to do either of them too well, nor did the project really demand anything too high quality from the cast, so I let it be what it is. They do a good job for the most part (though I don't know why Simeon sounds like a heavy smoker, but it's entertaining to listen to), but if you take any issue with any voice acting throughout this project, you can lay any blame or complaints on me. I don't have many regrets as director of this, but in hindsight I might have cast things a little differently in places. That aside, the cast themselves gave it their best and I'm proud of their work.

I had a lot of fun challenge in designing the brothers, making them look unique without straying from the setting too much and while all wearing the same clothes, which I guess makes me the costume designer. At the time of working on this, I think I learned all their names on sight. Yes, each of the brothers have their specific names assigned to them. Only a few have specific lines but there are moments where I got to record them as a "mob" which was me and four other voice actors recording scripted/improv segments twice (intended to be) in different voices, edited together to get the 10 lads yelling about stuff. That was a lot of fun to do together. Man, I miss 2019.
