Live a livE (SNES) - 13. Science Fiction Chapter - Mechanical Heart - (Cube) Part 1
With the remake of Live a livE coming out on Switch come July, I'm willing to bet most people didn't even know the game was originally from 1994. Released on the Super Famicom, Live a livE was never localized; and likely never had any plans to surface outside of Japan. However, it garnered a bit of a cult following, thanks to emulation and fans willing to translate the whole game.
Naturally, this is played via emulation with a fan translation patch; which imo, is currently the best way to play Live a livE. This game, is in my opinion; one of the underrated gems of the RPG genre from that era, and is one of the most unique RPGs I've ever played. I highly recommend the original, as well as the remake when it comes out, as it appears they are leaving the unique gameplay in tact, though I will likely also record that to find out.
And so we arrive at Cube's chapter, the last of the standard ones. Cube's chapter is... different. If I'm being honest, it plays more like a point and click game then anything; since there is no combat, aside from the Captain Square Minigame, the the final boss of the chapter. The majority of it is exploring, puzzle solving, and trying to deduce what the hell is going on... this can lead to situations where figuring that out becomes a problem... but what really sets this chapter into overdrive; is the Behemoth.
Unlike the other chapters, where Game Over is obtained via dying in combat... in Cube's Chapter, Game Over is being killed... with no way to fight back. There are many ways to end up as scrap metal; and you've really gotta watch out in this chapter.
Regarding Captain Square; it's a fun little extra, but some of the stages are bullshit levels hard. To quickly go over each: Mercury and Venus, you can basically do whatever, they are easy.
Earth, you have to kill the Fire elemental with water tiles; and then kill the Water Elementals, again easy.
Mars is a test of endurance; focus on the Mother Alien, and the others will break down. They all counter via healing, but Mother takes the damage she healed back to heal the others; so just keep attacking her till you win.
Jupiter has enemies who only attack when you are next to them; if possible stand above or below them. Pi-Meson Shot can kill them in one hit, but in general; you're better off using Plasma Ball till they die.
Saturn has 3 Giant enemies with 1 attack that deals massive damage; however, they never move; and their attack has certain spaces they can't target. If you get hit and identify where they can't hit; you can just kill them with Quark Sword.
Uranus is unironically, a pain. Essentially, there are a bunch of fake Lightning tiles, who use an attack that spreads lightning tiles like crazy. Problem is, your real target is hidden under one of those tiles, and cannot be targeted until he either comes out, or the tile dies; but they also reproduce. The easiest way I found was to use Pi-Meson shot from below, and if the Lightning tiles build up, use Supernova to change them to fire. Be warned, the true enemy can hit decently hard.
Neptune has Star enemies who all have crazy high defense but low HP. Many of your attacks won't scratch them, so you'll need to bust out some stronger techs. Easiest way to beat them is to ignore the La Lus and go for La La in the corner. Supernova and Fire tiles can kill him instantly if you're lucky. Just be wary, their attacks really hurt, and can often beat our your recovery; focus fire on La La and kill him quickly.
Pluto may not be considered a planet anymore; but it was back then. And it is insanely annoying and luck based. Some enemies here explode, some don't, some heal off lightning or fire, some don't. But what they all DO consistently, is spam Tope Suicide to CONSTANTLY reset your cooldown, and stop you from using your moves. Plasmaball is your best bet, but you really need to pray they don't f*ck with you to win.
This game was recorded via Emulation, and using Movavi recorder.
