Clashes erupted on Saturday in Soba, south Khartoum after days of armed confrontations between the army and the paramilitary RSF group. Hundreds are reported wounded and 56 casualties. Neighboring Chad has closed its border and Egypt calls for ceasefire and talks. The origins of the conflict stem from a disagreement regarding the integration process of the RSF into the army and its administration. The RSF was formed by former militia groups who fought on the side of the government during the conflict in Darfur from 2003-2020. They were accused of war crimes against the non-Arab population.
