🔴 LIVE Universal CityWalk Hollywood (March 24, 2024)
Universal CityWalk Hollywood is a vibrant entertainment, dining, and shopping complex adjacent to Universal Studios Hollywood. This pedestrian-only area spans three blocks, offering a dense concentration of nightlife and shopping options. Admission to CityWalk is free, allowing visitors to enjoy the area even without tickets to the theme park. It's known for its diverse dining options, ranging from Italian, Mexican, and American cuisines to Asian and fast food, ensuring everything for every palate. Highlights include VIVO Italian Kitchen, Antojitos Cocina Mexicana, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, and the Forrest Gump-themed Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. CityFood, on the second story, offers fast-food options for quick bites like KFC Express/Pizza Hut Express and Panda Express. Dessert lovers can indulge in Voodoo Doughnut or Ben & Jerry’s treats.
Additionally, CityWalk is home to Universal Cinema, an 18-screen multiplex including an IMAX theatre. It offers outdoor concerts, freefalling skydiving experiences at iFLY Hollywood, and a plethora of shopping venues. Unique attractions like the dancing water fountain, designed by the creators of the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas, add to the area's charm.
CityWalk, conceptualized by Jon Jerde, was inaugurated in May 1993. It is located next to the cinema initially operated by Cineplex Odeon and managed by AMC Theatres from 2006 onwards. Jerde Associates also oversaw a significant expansion in 2000, costing $1 billion and covering 93,000 square feet. The area is known for its vibrant street life, including magicians and musicians entertaining visitors.
The central area of CityWalk is distinguished by a 170-foot radial trellis, a structure engineered and constructed by Pearce Structures (notably the same company behind Biosphere 2). This space is further animated by a dynamic fountain from WET, adding to the ambiance. Overlooking the area is a massive television screen, supplied by Panasonic, that displays trailers for Universal's upcoming films, music videos, and promotional content from NBCUniversal, adjacent to the iconic giant guitar at the Hard Rock Cafe entrance.
In January 2010, this venue was the backdrop for the music video of Justin Bieber's hit, "Baby."
