A Microsoft insider once shared with me, the brutal truth about the Xbox 360 red ring of death.

The Xbox 360 was Microsoft's time to shine and it was the only console generation where Microsoft beat Sony for much of the console life. This is made more surprising considering that the Xbox 360 had the single worst chronic hardware failure problem of any video game system ever. The red ring of death nearly killed the Xbox and the entire Microsoft foray into video games.
