Locked weapon model field of views in FPS games | Commentary
Recently I've played through Shadow Ops: Red Mercury, a first-person shooter from 2004.
When I tried to run it at a 21:9 aspect ratio I realized that the game has parts of the HUD and (even worse) also the weapons tied to the screen resolution.
This sort of lead me down into a rabbit hole, where I've spent the last three weeks, on and off, looking at various first-person shooters to get a better understanding of how the various games display their weapons to the player.
This video somewhat concludes what I found out, at least from an amateur or hobbyist standpoint
I'd like to believe that there's much more about this topic out there, especially regarding the technical sides of it, that I didn't touch upon.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
Footage was recorded with Dxtory and Plays.tv at varying resolutions and either 30 or 60fps.
As always, if you have any constructive criticisms or comments, let me know, so I can improve on the next video!
