HISTORY
The 2-2-2 Adler, the “Eagle,” was designed by the English locomotive firm Robert Stephenson & Company to christen the inaugural German rail line, the Ludwigsbahn. A variation on their 2-2-2 Patentee design, the Adler had an impressive career for an early engine, continuing its four mile service between Nuremberg and Furth until the mid-1800’s, when it was finally dismantled and sold for scrap.
