Looking At - Swim Racer X - A better showcase of a much better version of the game - RPG Maker MV
How's it going everyone, in this RPG Maker MV First Impressions video we take a look at Swim Racer X, a game by Nicholas Watson. This game has a good theme and decent story writing, even if the plot seems questionable at times. I love half of the storyline and dislike the other half. It's really a mixed bag for me. This games uses a hybrid combat system with mostly first person but draws sprites to the screen which is much better than your standard first person combat system. There are a decent number of skills, however their animations are not anything fancy and half of them are useless at any one time. The game has two different battle modes. The first being a standard kill the thing with melee attack and a few skills type, and then something different. The other combat mode, which looks very similar, is you versus the ocean, or you versus your party member in a swimming competition. It's really weird, but also very unique. It's actually really fun the first few times, however once the novelty wears off, it become slightly boring and lackluster, to where it devolves into spamming the skill 'stroke' over n over. Some of the other more 'resource expenive' skills seem to do about the same damage or give a similar combat benefit as the 1mp cost skill of stroke, and feel useless in some situations. If you try to use your melee attacks in one combat mode it will do nothing, but if you try to use your main combat skill of stroke in the other mode, it also does nothing. This version of the game has a new feature that shows the player where they need to go at every point in the game, which I for one think this is a huge thing, and really makes the game much more playable. Big props for putting that system in. I really liked Micky's whole storyline, for as far as I got to. The only part that I didn't like was when we had a boring battle with the "Deep Ocean" where the battle background looked like a swamp and nothing like a "Deep Ocean." Besides that whole whacky side to the game was really fun. It's really clear that this game has a ton of content, and many, many hours have gone into it. My final say on the game is, I would recommend you give it a shot because it's very different from your typical RPG, and that's a good thing. Thanks for watching! :)
