So this is Hell, eh? Shantae goes to Mud Bog Island, and we get some unexpectedly sincere events, after the ludicrousness of Tan Line Island.

I really do appreciate the sincerity behind some of these characters. Rottytops here is hardly a picture of profound character psychology, but so often comedic stories become so obsessed with gags they forget about being stories, about needing heart. I love Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse not only for its fun platforming, good music, colorful graphics, funny humor, and cute characters, but also for the sincerity in the story.

It’s still a really pretty silly, normal video gamey story, but c’mon give me this one
