I don’t know how long I wandered through the tunnels of Sunless Skein. Time didn’t pass in steps—it passed in doubts. The shafts twisted like veins through stone, damp and choking, haunted by things that should have remained buried. Every passage was a circle. Every crossing mocked me.

I fought through darkness, traps, and fangs, always with the sense that something breathed behind me. Then... the key. Dust-covered, nearly forgotten, but heavy in my hand like a promise. I didn’t know what it would unlock, only that it would carry me forward. And it did. The mines spat me out like an error. I stepped into a city ablaze—half collapsed, half burning, clinging like a scar to the edge of lower Calrath. Nothing here was safe. Every creaking beam echoed a scream. Every flickering glow painted ghosts on the walls.

I moved silently. The ground felt brittle. The light, a lie. I felt my old flail weighing me down, the heavy shield no longer speaking to me. So I let them go. I took the Scourged Sister Flail—faster, crueler, merciless. I felt the change immediately. Every strike came like thought: sharp, unstoppable. I was no longer a wave. I was a blade.

And then I found him. The Skinstealer. Not a name—an accusation. He waited where the smoke was thickest, where the ground barely held. He didn’t move like a man. Not like a beast. He was... hunger, shaped into flesh. The battle wasn’t a clash. It was a dance along the edge of fire. One slow step—death. One mistake—final.

But I was ready. I was faster now. Sharper. Lighter on my feet. When he fell, something else did too: the part of me that still believed there might be an end in these depths. But this was only another beginning. I didn’t take the lift. I had seen too many who tried—none returned. I had seen what the light above tried to hide. And I knew now: my path still led down.
