Love Is Not All is set to a moving sonnet by Edna St. Vincent Millay. It was written during the summer of 2020 for soprano Betsy Podsiadlo. Ms. Podsiadlo brought this poem to my attention, and I was immediately moved by the poem’s deep emotional content and inner turmoil. The poem was originally published in Millay’s Collected Poems in 1931. This setting is for soprano and piano, with a vocal range from C4 (middle C) to A6, making use of lush yet sometimes unresolving sonorities.
