Madshot Road to Madness is an Indie, Side Scroller Action Roguelike / RogueLite Lovecraftian Horde Survival Shoot em up, a Twin Stick shooter where you are what the elder things fear!
The Gameplay feels good, with strong powerful attacks that both feel and play differently depending upon the weapons chosen, and the starting weapons are actually very strong.
There is no feeling that Meta Progression is required to win here, as is the case in something like Rogue Legacy, where the vertically stacking hp, damage and utility abilities are flat out required for the vast majority of players to have any hope of defeating the final boss.
In Madshot Road to Madness, the Meta Progression, from what I have seen, is horizontal, NOT vertical, unlocking different styles of play and abilities, not necessarily stronger ones.
This is good, as horizontal progression makes for a game that you WANT to play again and again, at different power lvls and builds, and it does so absent any forced grinding and repeated deaths until “you get to the good stuff".
None of that mandatory grinding here!
The Meta Progression in Madshot Road to Madness is present in the form of coins, earned within runs, and used to unlock additional “masks”; class unlocks, as well as primary weapons, and sidearms.
They feel unique and different, starting with the powerful Dual Revolvers and greatsword, but leading to an eldritch charged rifle, A Lightning Rod, a Laser Eye, and more.
All feel different, and look great.
Full Gamepad support is present in Madshot Road to Madness, though I found the gameplay more responsive for me with mouse and keyboard.
Note: This is the demo version of Madshot Road to Madness and thus any encountered bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, Madshot Road to Madness is offering fun and approachable Indie Side Scrolling Lovecraftian
Horde Survival Action!
