Video Transcript:
Lucio is the most versatile support hero to play. Think of him as sort of the middle ground between Zenyatta and Mercy - doing a medium amount of both damage and healing, but with a crowd control ability and a great team buff ultimate.
He has a passive wall ride ability that allows him to skate along walls for a brief time. It’s tricky to utilize, but it can sometimes be used to reach hard to get places, or as a way to make yourself a difficult target for your enemies.
Lucio’s main attack, Sonic Amplifier, will do the same amount of damage no matter how far away the enemy is. The projectiles are a bit slow, so try to aim in front of wherever your target is heading. Fire it as much as possible even if you don’t spot an enemy, as you’re likely to still hit someone now and then.
His right click attack, Soundwave, doesn’t do much damage but it’s purpose is to knock enemies away. You can use this to push enemies off the map, into the firing range of your teammates, or to just knock back dangerous heroes such as Reinhardt, Mei and Reaper that rely on close quarters for effectiveness.
Lucio’s ability Crossfade will always either be giving your nearby teammates a speed or healing buff, and there is no cooldown on switching between them. The aura has a 30 yard range, and you can see in the middle of your screen how many teammates are currently being affected by it. His Amp It Up ability will increase their effectiveness for 3 seconds, and you can switch between the two while it’s active and maintain the boost. The same aura from two Lucio’s don’t stack, so be sure to coordinate with your fellow Lucio if you happen to have one.
The speed aura is the most useful when running back into battle after dying, or escaping an enemy’s ultimate. If you have teammates that die shortly after you, wait a few seconds for them to rez so that they can benefit from your speed aura. It can also make it harder for Widowmaker to land headshots on your team. Outside of this, you will find yourself using the heal aura most of the time in combat. Make sure to save your Amp It Up for when a teammate is critically injured or you’re expecting a large amount of incoming damage.
Lucio’s ultimate, Sound Barrier, will apply a 500 point shield to your teammates, degrading at 100 points per second. Make sure to tell your team if you plan to use it, so that heroes such as Pharah, Reaper, and Genji can use their ultimates more safely. It’s also a great way to help swing an overtime into your favor, or protect your teammates from enemy ultimates such as Junkrat’s Rip Tire or McCree’s Deadeye.
Overall, Lucio is a very fun and mobile hero to play, but it’s crucial to stay as close to your team as possible for them to reap the benefits. Thanks for watching my video, and be sure to check out other Overwatch hero quick tips in the links below.
