I talked to author Douglas Valentine, who conducted exhaustive research for his book the Strength of the Wolf and interviewed dozens and dozens of old time Federal Bureau of Narcotics Agents who told him the secret history of Federal Drug Enforcement, the CIA, and just how dark, dirty, and corrupt it was from the very beginning. Formed during WW2, the Office of Strategic Services was forerunner to the CIA and from the very start, they had an incestuous relationship with the Federal Bureau of Narcotics.

When Prohibition ended in 1933, the Mafia got into selling dope, looking to replace the easy profits of illegal alcohol, and by the late 30’s cocaine, morphine, and heroin were big business for the National Crime Syndicate.

But with the Japanese Navy controlling the Pacific and Nazi U-boats prowling the Atlantic, the flow of Heroin all but stopped once the War started.

In 1938 a bag of heroin on the Streets of New York averaged 28% purity. By 1941, it was down to 3%.There were only about 20,000 heroin addicts left in the U.S. by 1945. Thanks to the war, the drug problem had almost gone away in America.

But while the heroin business had been put on hold during the War, the blueprint for a post-war explosion had been created with the help of the U.S. military.



Charles “Lucky” Luciano was the Boss of Bosses, far more powerful than Al Capone, the man who United the Sicilians in America into official families across the country and set up the National Crime Syndicate that controlled everyone-
