What is the Lucky Wi-Fi Talk & Text app?
The Lucky Wi-Fi Talk & Text app lets you make and receive calls and send and receive texts over a Wi-Fi network in areas where you don’t have mobile network coverage. You get a dedicated Wi-Fi calling phone number for exclusive use with the app.

The Lucky Wi-Fi Talk & Text app is for Android devices in the Google Play Store and iOS in the Apple App Store.

Where can I use the app?

You can use the app wherever a Wi-Fi network is available. Call quality might vary depending on the strength of the Wi-Fi connection.

What do I need to use the app?

To use the Lucky Wi-Fi Talk & Text app, you will need:

A smartphone capable of downloading the app.

Android smartphones with Android 5.0 or higher
iPhone with iOS 11.0 or higher
An active Lucky Mobile rate plan.

Note: Text with 9-1-1 is not compatible with Wi-Fi Calling.
A high-speed Wi-Fi connection.
How much does the app cost?

There is no additional cost for using the Lucky Wi-Fi Talk & Text app. Your Wi-Fi Calling usage is unlimited for calls and texts to and from Canadian and U.S. phone numbers. Calls and text messages within the app will not be applied against your account balance.

Note: Your Internet service provider may apply additional charges for Internet usage consumed by Wi-Fi Calling. Wi-Fi Calling consumes about 1 MB of data per minute.

Important note about 9-1-1 calls
9-1-1 support is limited over Wi-Fi. Emergency personnel are not able to track your location when you call 9-1-1 through Wi-Fi Calling. In the event of an emergency, a 9-1-1 dispatcher will need an address to locate you. If you are unable to communicate with the 9-1-1 operator, they will dispatch help to the address listed in your Wi-Fi Calling settings. Please update this address when you change locations.

Using the Lucky Wi-Fi Talk & Text app
Setting up Wi-Fi Calling in the Lucky Wi-Fi Talk & Text app

To set up Wi-Fi calling, you must be connected to a mobile network so you can receive a text message with a verification code.

To register for Wi-Fi Calling in the app:

Download and install the app on your smartphone.
Launch the app and accept the permissions enabling the app to make and receive calls.
Complete the activation steps that appear.
Read and accept the Terms and Conditions.
Enter an Emergency Address. This address is used if you call 9-1-1 and are unable to communicate your location.
Choose your Wi-Fi phone number and you’re ready to go.
Why do I need to input an emergency address when setting up Wi-Fi Calling?

Emergency personnel are not able to track your location when you call 9-1-1 using Wi-Fi Calling. If you are unable to verbally communicate your location, help will be dispatched to the address in your app settings. It is important that you update this address to reflect your most up-to-date whereabouts when you use Wi-Fi Calling.

How do I know that I can make a Wi-Fi call or send a text?

To use Wi-Fi Calling or send and receive text messages you must be connected to a Wi-Fi network located in Canada or the U.S.

You will see a Connected indicator on the status bar of your device when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network and you can make and receive Wi-Fi calls and send and receive text messages.

You will see a No Wi-Fi Connection indicator on the status bar of your device when you are not connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Calls must start and finish within the Wi-Fi network you connect to. If you leave a Wi-Fi zone during a call, the call will terminate. Similarly, if you start your call on the mobile network and enter a Wi-Fi only zone, your call will terminate.

You cannot make or receive Wi-Fi calls to or from phone numbers from outside Canada and the U.S.

Note: Some corporate Wi-Fi networks block Wi-Fi Calling.
