Luis Figo almost signed for THIS Italian team!
Luis Figo was an incredible footballer.
A Ballon d’Or winner in his own right, the Portuguese winger was the greatest player his nation had seen since Eusebio and led the country’s Golden Generation back into the World Cup and European Championships.
He was once the most-capped Portuguese player of all-time, and his club career wasn’t bad also. From his native Sporting, Figo rose to prominence either side of the Clasico divide, first at Barcelona in the final years of the 20th century and then at Real Madrid as the first of Florentino Perez’s Galacticos.
Across two days we shall be exploring two major crossroads in Luis Figo’s career, and since it’s transfer season they will involve a money changing hands. First, what if Luis Figo stayed at Barcelona, then: what if Luis Figo joined Parma from Sporting in 1995?
