Lukozer Retro Game Review 442 - SimLife AGA - Commodore Amiga
My review of the Commodore Amiga game SimLife, released by Maxis in 1993. This game is an absolute masterpiece of software engineering and to this day I have no idea how they managed to cram in such depth and complexity into a game that only came on three floppy disks. While this is absolutely NOT a game that will appeal to everyone, the depth this game has makes it the sandbox game by which all others shall be judged. I do not come even remotely close to showing everything this game has to offer, but hopefully I have shown enough to pique your interest in this one.
The game is not without issues, the hefty amount of calculations means your Amiga CPU can never be too fast (I slowed it down slightly for the sake of his video but while playing the game itself you'll really want to max it out)... and the amount of disk accessing means installing to a hard drive is highly recommended. But these issues aside, this game is phenomenal.
NOTE: The version I review here is the AGA version, so requires an Amiga 1200 or better/later. There is a version available for Amiga's that do not have the AGA chipset, but the AGA Hi-res version is the one I had back in the day, hence why I reviewed it. Whichever version you play, I cannot recommend highly enough that you configure your emulator to use a 68060 accelerated CPU with plenty of fast RAM.
