In addition to what I've seen on Instagram, I got a sister here who has been to Comic Con a number of times. She recommended that I should go to an expo like that.
And thus, LVL UP EXPO (2020) became the first time ever I've been to a convention like that.
When I arrived at the area, it turned out there where about three activities going in. Got I little little lost trying to find the right parking area. And it was raining too.
This is a three day expo. We went on days two and three. I would say the first things that became apparent once we passed through the main entrance inside the convention, where the number of figma display collections and people who where wearing cosplay of sorts.
I'll say about 75% of the people on day two where wearing cosplay in one form or another. Somewhat less on day three. As long as rules are followed, one can come in wearing virtually anything. Props need to be inspected and tagged.
Never seen such figma collections/displays before. That was funny to see. I suppose they where on the expensive side. I really don't know what is the typical price of one. There was bound to be collector items there. Had I found Angela Balzac (Expelled from Paradise), I don't think I would have resisted regardless! I actually asked, but was informed she's no longer available.
When I saw said movie and character on Netflix, my interest in anime increased. Although I still consider myself a casual fan, with the exception of Angela herself, as you can see from this Channel's Avatar and Banner. And I also made a playlist featuring my favorite Miku Miki Dance (MMD) vids people have made featuring her.
I didn't saw mecha stuff like Robotech and/or Gundam by the way. Maybe a little here and there. Did spotted Mazinger.
There where a number of cars there. Really like those. Wished I could get in one. One of them really had a spicy anime girl on the front and sides.
As pointed on this vid's intro, I never really done a vlog that involves the interaction and appearance of people I don't know. So asking I cosplayer for either a pic or selfie took some getting used to. I would ask first if they're OK with that. Then show the pic that I took to them.
I recon then, that if I decided to cosplay myself, I would need to be ready if I'm asked. I'll be OK with it.
I found out that if someone's cosplay is seen as good enough, an expo staff member will approach reward you with a medal. Thought that for the actual competition, which was on day three in one of the separate rooms.
Turned out, aside from the central room, there where a number of rooms to the left of the main entrance. On the pamphlet given, one can see each room is for a different, but related activity. They are done at different times. Aside from one being for the Cosplay Competition, there was another for cosplay tips and advise. The competition was alright I guess. Could have been better. I didn't sat close enough to capture some of that.
There where about a dozen or so artists present. One could easily see each one had a different style. From chalk based to metal based from what I was able to tell.
There where video game sections with Minecraft and Fortnite plus Retro, XBox, PlayStation, Switch. Think I spotted a Sega Saturn too.
ESports where about League of Legends, Super Smash Bros and and surprisingly, Street Fighter too.
Virtual Reality was there play some tech stuff like gyrocopters and radio controlled custom robot cars.
So, as a first timer, I had a lot of fun. I'll see if I take things a bit more seriously next time. Or if I go to a similar expo. What I mean is that I'll end up taking a selfie with an Overwatch voice actress next time! The actress for DVA was there as well as Pharah.
I like the Overwatch characters. But not the modes the game offers. I prefer more spread out combat involving multiple objectives, like Call of Duty's Domination.
But Overwatch doesn't have splitscreen support so, lol. Currently, the Arcade mode of Star Wars Battlefront 2 provides me with the Hero shoot experience, since it features both splitscreen and AI Bot support.
Anyways, I hope this vid gives you pretty good idea of that this expo is about and what it was to offer. And until the next time. Peace out!
