661 Squadron of 1 Army Air Corps spent five months training ahead of deploying to Afghanistan in July. They trained in Germany, the UK, the US and Kenya before heading to Camp Bastion for their four-month tour. So far, they have spent their time in Helmand Province with the newest Lynx helicopter, the Mark 9 Alpha. They have been escorting Chinooks and Merlins in and out of patrol bases, but they also provide assistance when needed to troops on the ground.
