M16 | Weapon Guide | S.O.G. Prairie Fire Arma 3
Hope you enjoy these guide videos! Trying something new.
The M16 is the US Military’s first standard-issue assault rifle. Designed to be lighter and more controllable in fully-automatic firing mode than the M14, the weapon has proven to be effective in fighting unarmored enemy soldiers in the jungles of Vietnam. Early M16 models had issues with corrosion and reliability, commonly jamming and requiring thorough maintenance. The M16A1 introduces corrections for these issues, adding a chrome-plated chamber and a forward assist to help resolve malfunctions. Early M16 magazines were designed to hold 20 rounds, should be loaded with 18 to prevent jams. 30 round magazines are now available which can hold up to 28 rounds reliably. It is recommended that you take advantage of dual magazine configurations where you can – this will allow you to spend the least time reloading of all options. The M16 can be equipped with 3x and 3-9x magnification optics, or AN-PVS-2 Starlite optics for nighttime operations. It also is issued with an M7 bayonet for close-quarters engagements, an optional XM148 Grenade Launcher for engaging enemies behind cover or clusters of enemies, and an attachable suppressor for recon ops. RT Columbia sometimes will bring a sniper-configured M16 with a suppressor in order to provide a marksman element to the team. UH-1H crew chief Spc5 Don “Ghost Rider” Haase uses an M16 with dual 20 round magazines as his backup weapon to his door-mounted M60. The dual magazine configuration is ideal for reloading in a helicopter as it ensures the operator spends the least time and effort reloading in the highly kinetic environment aboard a troopship during combat operations. Some SOG S-4s have seen periodic shortages of CAR-15s and have instead issued M16s to recon men – both Americans and Indig.
It’s always a pleasure to share my experiences and stories with you all. Thanks for being here for it!
