Madeleine McCann would be 20 today
35Probably the World’s most famous missing person, McCann disappeared while on holiday in Portugal in 2007 just 9 days short of her 4th birthday.
A months-long investigation produced no leads and Portuguese authorities began to set their sights on McCann’s parents as suspects. They are later cleared but not before the media savaged them.
Over the decades there have been reported sightings of McCann and the case pops into the news every now and then.
For example in 2013 and 2014 British police suggested they had a list of 41 suspects and were close to making an arrest but after these interrogation no new information emerged.
Then in 2020 the trail led to an imprisoned German child abuser and in 2022 German authorities said they believed McCann was dead at this man’s hands and they were treating the case as a murder investigation. That case is still ongoing…
But in 2023 a Polish woman launched a social media campaign claiming to be Madeleine McCann…
A DNA test, disproved her claim…though not before she got a good deal of attention
