Reports made at the time said that the plane had taken off with the door improperly fastened. And it flung open after three failed attempts to fully shut it mid-flight late on the 8th or early on the 9th of May.

The cargo hold was packed with standing, unsecured passengers and the dramatic change in pressure when the door opened sucked them out the back of the plane.

Most of the survivors were at the front of the hold and were saved by a truck that blocked their path while others reported clinging to cargo netting on the walls
