Lumidee releases "Never Leave You (Uh Oh)"
Originally a slower song, Lumidee’s manager/producer/ independent record label guy DJ Tedsmooth, took the popular Jamaican Dancehall beat, Diwali Riddim, and tweaked “Never Leave You” to fit onto it…
The catchy lyrics and beat exploded on the New York club scene and received so many requests on local radio stations that Universal records came knocking…the single went to number 3 in the US and Number 1 in multiple European Countries.
A remix featuring Busta Rhymes and Fabolous released at the same time also met with success and 20 years later Nicki Minaj incorporated the song into her new track Red Ruby Da Sleez
It sounds like Lumidee kinda got burned on that first major record deal but continued to have success in Europe and says she is grateful because the success of the song enabled her to pursue music as a profession and most recently She was part of Usher’s love and Friends festival held in Vegas…
