3Magic Knight Rayearth is an action RPG developed by Sega and based on the popular anime and manga series by CLAMP. The game closely follows the story of the anime's first season, where three schoolgirls—Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu—are transported to the magical world of Cephiro and must become legendary knights to save Princess Emeraude.
Developed early in the Saturn's lifecycle in Japan (released in 1995), the game combines anime-style cutscenes, voice acting, and top-down Zelda-like gameplay, allowing players to switch between the three heroines—each with unique abilities—to solve puzzles and fight enemies.
Despite being one of the earliest Saturn RPGs in Japan, Magic Knight Rayearth became the last officially released game for the Sega Saturn in North America when it was localized and published by Working Designs in late 1998. This late release, along with its charming visuals and ties to a beloved anime, has made it a cult classic among Saturn fans.
