These matches were actually captured immediately following the run through Bad Dudes to fill the remaining time. It's actually the second time we'd both played, although it was more than just the second time for me playing the game in general...it's really all about building up movement speed in addition to the usual pattern recognition.

---

Match #1:
Father Strength (Joou) vs. The Star (LAM)

Oh yeah, even with all those secret characters you see that you can unlock, in this case you need to select Strength and hold the C button as you make your selection to play instead as the big hulking brute that is the original Strength.

I do see some slight confusion between different sources, but at least I *think* that the younger Strength is this strength's daughter...but s/he is either tomboyish or androgynous enough to the point that it could really go either way. I tend to favor the notion that Strength the younger is a girl.

---

Match #2:
The Tower (Joou) vs. Temperance (LAM)

The Tower as a literal tower moving around like a humanoid transforming robot is another highly amusing notion for me when it comes to this game's artful characterizations of the traditional Tarot deck and its Major Arcana trumps.

The Tower actually gets a rather unique stage design, because he's the "sub boss" right before you reach the end of the story mode, even neutered such as it is in international releases.

---

Match #3:
The Lovers (Joou) vs. The World (LAM)

I still have no idea why The Lovers is portrayed as a young girl riding a pig. No amount of figuring or symbolism or anything of the sort that I'm familiar with makes it any less confusing or uncomfortable if traditional Tarot logic is applied.

But that little girl and her pig are still just cute as a button! ...which just makes the disparity all the more troubling!

---

Match #4:
The Fool (Joou) vs. Temperance (LAM)

The Fool is the only character allowed to keep his original voice...because...uh, he doesn't actually speak in the first place. He just has some gibberish and blubbering and weird sounds he makes. And boy is The Fool weird! I don't actually think that's what The Fool is supposed to be in terms of Tarot symbolism, though. Ahgagagagagagagyaaaa~!

(So then what's the deal with the identical cat and child?)
