In this video, I'm doing a 1 Credit Challenge of a game that I played before on the NES, back when I was a kid. That game is: MagMax for the Arcade. This game was developed by Nihon Bussan and published by Nichibutsu, it was released in 1985. MagMax was also ported to home computers, such as: Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and NES (aka Nintendo Entertainment System). This game was also released for the PlayStation 4 in 2015 and Nintendo Switch in 2020 as part of Arcade Archives series from Hamster Corporation. MagMax is a horizontal scrolling shooter, players control the title hover ship in an attempt to completely construct the ship into a giant robot and to destroy any enemies attempting to stop it. The plot of MagMax goes like this: An alien menace has attacked the worlds of civilization and laid waste to their planets. However before the being conquered, a group of scientists has managed to create one last weapon and hidden it underground. The name of the weapon is MagMax and only it might be able to defeat the alien invaders. MagMax however is incomplete and for security reasons, his component parts are scattered across the land. Through their collection, MagMax's strength increases. At the beginning, MagMax is only a tiny little fighter craft that can fire low-powered projectiles. As component pieces are found; such as a head, legs and a laser lance, MagMax's offensive power increases. Access to the underworld can be granted through small dark craters on the landscape. Once in the underworld, MagMax's weapons vary slightly as do the enemies (there are no stationary objects underground). Enemy fire or contact on each of the components will destroy that component. Fire on the main fighter will destroy MagMax. At the end of each level awaits a boss creature, which is a three-headed mechanical dragon, known as Babylon, strongly resembles Mecha-King Ghidorah from the Godzilla franchise. About my run on MagMax: I really enjoyed playing this one, especially if I tried the original arcade version for the first time. Although the game is tough, but still very fun to play. Overall, MagMax is a great scrolling shooter from Nichibutsu, the same publisher who made Formation Armed F, which I played before in the Tubers High Score Challenge not too long ago and I really liked it. I highly recommend to give this game a try. I hope you enjoy this 1 Credit Challenge video of MagMax for the Arcade and thanks for watching!
