MaGMML Episode Zero: Hot Steps in 1:42.000 (RTA Loadout)
Hot Steps is 80% autoscroller, which makes it a great time to talk about a whole bunch of unrelated things.
First, the Icicle Chip. You can angle the buster shots more sharply, and both them and the Burst shots rebound off of walls. Quite useful, especially since the Burst shots still pierce. Icicle Saber fires off a flurry of shards that are, um, passable at crowd control, but those shards make using it as a weakness difficult since they only do half damage and get in the way often. Icicle Drive is the chip's main draw, creating a shield around Zero that lets him avoid damage entirely and float on water. If it weren't for the chip's speed penalty, we'd likely be using this a lot. And we still use it. Just not a lot.
Second, the way Chapter 2 is structured, unlocking the rest of the game only takes enough elements to clear three of the four main paths. Zap and Icicle are the two overall faster paths, and Flame and Psycho are the two slower ones. A major purpose of these RTA Loadout runs is to figure out which is faster between Flame and Psycho, and which is slower. So, when I go through the Psycho Path after this one, it won't be with the Flame Chip, but with what I'm using here.
We good? Good.
