MAME - Bank Panic - Day / Night Palette Change Fix
Support for Sega/Sanritsu's Bank Panic was added to MAME in 0.28, released in September of 1997 - 25 years ago - by original MAME creator Nicola Salmoria. We were not previously aware, but it has never had 100% correct colours, that is, until now. For some stages, the game writes to a single bit register, which causes a different part of the colour lookup PROM to be used, changing a single palette entry from an orange colour, to a dark blue. This is used on some stages for a night time effect behind the doors. Thanks to Pierre Cornier for noticing this when studying the hardware.
I also play a bit of the very similar Combat Hawk, which is a vertical game, also by Sega/Sanritsu which feels like it was meant as a sequel (it is unclear if it was ever released)
