Mando Has BOBA FETT'S Helmet and Jetpack in the Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer - Star Wars Theory
735After the release of the Mandalorian Season 2 trailer, many of us noticed a very familiar looking helmet and jetpack on the back of Din Djarin’s speeder bike for a brief moment. Could this actually be the helmet and jetpack of bounty hunter, Boba Fett? I’m going to breakdown exactly what happened to Boba Fett’s helmet and armor in Canon after he plunged into the Sarlacc on Tatooine, and why the ones seen in the trailer could belong to him.

While watching the Mandalorian Season 2 trailer, many of us were surprised to see a couple of very familiar pieces of equipment in the scene where Din Djarin is riding his speeder through the sand. This scene is incredibly fast, so if you blinked, you could easily have missed it.
During the time of the Clone Wars, the Mandalorians who resided on Mandalore and other worlds under the control of Mandalore wore Z-6 Jetpacks as part of their Mandalorian tradition. This same Z-6 Jetpack was also of worn by Jango Fett, Bo-Katan, and of course Boba fett.
A similar shape to this Z-6 design of Jetpack can be seen attached to the back of the Mandalorian’s speeder in the Mandalorian season 2 trailer, potentially pointing to a possible encounter with Boba Fett. You can clearly see two round nozzle shapes on the outer exterior of the jetpack, which are probably the directional exhaust nozzles seen on every Z-6 jetpack. After that, you can clearly see the two cylindrical shapes in the middle of the jetpack, which align perfectly with the standard positioning of the Z-6 fuel tanks.
The most obvious part that points to Boba Fett’s jetpack is the extruding cylinder in the top-centre of the jetpack, which looks like the usual position where the missile would go on the pack. Interestingly, it doesn’t look like there is a missile currently loaded into the pack, possibly meaning that it has already been fired, maybe in a fight with Din Djarin. Some people were saying that this object was just part of the speeder bike, but looking back at the bikes used the last time we were on Tatooine in Season 1 episode 5, there is nothing similar attached to the back.
This shot is also set on a desert planet which of course could mean the Mando is on Tatooine, and happens to encounter the long lost bounty hunter.
Following that is the slightly less clear one, which is the helmet. The quality of the image and speed of shot make it extremely hard to tell exactly what this object is, but Star Wars theory and others have pointed out that the object hanging on the side of the speeder bike does have a very similar shape to Boba Fett’s helmet. As you can see from the image on screen now, the object has a round, helmet-shape, combined with a small, very hard to see antenna or rangefinder. This one is a lot more unclear than the other, so we’ll just have to wait and see if it does turn out to be true. We pretty much know for sure that Boba Fett will be in the show in some form, because of the numerous reputable sources, like the Hollywood Reporter that reported Temuera Morrison being cast as Boba and Captain Rex. Now that leads us into the second theory. Because we know that Vanth has Boba’s armour after the events of Return of the Jedi, it’s very possible that instead of fighting Boba, Din Djarin actually fights Cobb Vanth and takes the armor from him instead. There were also rumours that Boba Fett would only have a small role in Season 2, but a much larger one in season three, potentially meaning that after defeating Cobb Vanth, the Mando could bring the armour to Boba, early in Season 3. I think this is a really cool idea, but let me know what you think down below.
For those of you who don’t know the story of Cobb Vanth, or how he is related to Boba Fett’s Story, I'll very quickly break that down.
Cobb Vanth was a former slave on the planet Tatooine who had a deep, star-shaped scar carved into the skin of his back as a symbol of ownership from his slave-owners. Sometime before the battle of Endor, Vanth had freed himself from the harsh life of slavery and became a self-appointed sherrif of a small town on Tatooine, called Freetown. After the Death of Jabba the Hutt, Vanth encountered a henchman of the Red Key raiders crime syndicate on Tatooine, who was sent by his leader, Lorgan Movellan to retrieve Boba Fett’s armor from the jawas who scavenged it it out of the Sarlacc.
