Maniac (also known as Sex Maniac) is a wild, unhinged descent into insanity, madness, and early horror exploitation. The story follows Don Maxwell, a former vaudeville actor turned assistant to a deranged scientist. When the scientist is accidentally killed, Maxwell covers up the crime by assuming his identity and continuing the twisted experiments—spiraling into an increasingly violent and delusional mental breakdown.

Shot on a shoestring budget and filled with lurid imagery, bizarre hallucinations, random nudity, and rudimentary psychology lessons, Maniac has earned a cult status for its chaotic editing, surreal atmosphere, and over-the-top performances. With its public domain status, the film is often cited as one of the earliest examples of horror schlock and cinematic insanity—so bad it’s unforgettable.
