In this guide, we will demonstrate the installation of Manjaro using the KDE-Plasma desktop environment.
Manjaro System Requirements
For satisfactory user experience, itโs recommended that your PC satisfies the following minimum requirements:
2GB RAM
30 GB of Hard disk space
Minimum of 2 GHz processor
HD graphics card and monitor
A stable internet connection.
Manjaro 21.0 is out today as the newest feature release to this popular desktop Linux distribution built atop Arch Linux.
Manjaro 21.0 is powered by the Linux 5.10 LTS kernel while continuing to keep Linux 5.4 LTS around for those wanting it on older hardware. Manjaro 21.0 is also making use of Pamac 10 graphical package manager, which released at the end of last year with performance improvements, optimized database interaction, systemd dynamic users, and other new features.
On the desktop side, Manjaro 21.0 offers the options of GNOME 3.38, KDE Plasma 5.21, and Xfce 4.16. Manjaro 21.0 is also bringing improvements to its Calamares-based installer.
Manjaro 21.0 also features all of the other latest packages of Arch Linux.
Manjaro Linux is one of those Linux distributions which is slowly evolving to reach great heights of Linux desktops. Manjaro 21.0 was released a while back and hence itโs time for a Manjaro 21.0 review.
Itโs been a while I tested Manjaro. As per I remember, the last time I checked Manjaro 18.0 โ Illyriaโ which was released in 2018. A lot has happened since then. And obviously, Majnaro as a project evolved. Today, Majaro is not only a desktop environment for Laptops. It is being preferred for ARM-based Linux Phones as well. That itself tells explains the project is evolving to its vision.
Manjaro 21.0 Review
Test Bed
I have tested Manjaro 21.0 in both Virtual machines (GNOME Boxes 3.38) and physical devices. And while doing the Manjaro 21.0 review, I found no difference in performance as such in both types of installations.
Manjaro 21.0 offers three official choices of desktops โ KDE Plasma 5.21, Xfce 4.16, GNOME 3.38. This review is based on the Xfce edition of Manjaro. There is a reason I have picked up Xfce.
Itโs lightweight and can be adopted by any user or use-case. Itโs versatile while keeping the traditional menu-driven desktop alive.
It is worth mentioning here that the Manjaro community also offers other window manager and desktop flavors such as MATE, LXQt, Budgie, bspwm, Awesome WMโฆ, etc.
