My one and only determined attempt at hitting 1000 population before the demo ended on 10/10/22. I decided that this objective was to be the purpose of the run, midway through the run, and spontaneously designed and implemented what would be needed to achieve it. Here's how that went.

I've had fun with the demo and it's been interesting to try to learn and push. This is the way to go for games - free demos that make people excited to play the game on launch, which I am; I want to return to some of these ideas and see what they're like in a real game situation. Good attitude from the developer and the publisher to allow people to try before they buy (a rarity that demonstrates belief in the game even at an early stage) and to actually use demos for feedback - something the internet makes possible now in 2022. Back in the late 90s/early 00s when I played demos (the golden age of the demo), there was almost no way to use this to improve the final game. I hope this game gets all of the time and money it needs to be as good as possible, and that the developer is allowed to realise his vision, and that more games use this approach and get lauded for it.

The ideas I had here could be developed and pushed very far I think (even in the presence of poor optimisation and extreme lagging and bugs), but I didn't get to properly follow-up on it and see how it would fare even in those circumstances, due to the demo ending. After this run, I only managed to begin another attempt (which I could upload too at some point) where I try to use importing wheat as a food source. Was basically just trying lots of different stuff to see how the game handled it. Whatever came to mind. Looking forward to continuing with the full release.
