Nintendo saw the success and different playstlyes of the Mario RPG games as a big opportunity and created two teams to tackle the development of many games. Following the popularity of Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga for the Gameboy Adanved, Mario & Luigi Partners in Time was developed for the Nintendo DS to take advantage of the new hardware. Now with 4 buttons available, Nintendo decided to add 2 more characters who turned out to be baby Mario and baby Luigi! Throw in some time travel to the connect them all together, add a dash of an alien invasion by Princess Shroob, and you got a brand new Mario RPG!
