Even though the graphics are extremely simple, there are still some cool little details that are sprinkled in here and there. For example, on hole 5 of the golf game, if you are in the right spot, you can see a castle in the background. Could this mean that Wii Sports is set in the Mushroom Kingdom universe? That would be a stretch, because I only found one other thing in the game that could be considered a reference to other Nintendo franchises. The other one that I found is in the baseball game. When a Mii jumps high to catch a ball, you can hear a sound similar to Mario's jump. In my opinion, this is a missed opportunity. It would have been so cool to see billboards and such referencing Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, and the like. They could have put tons of cool easter eggs like that in the game. But nevertheless, I'm probably overthinking it and this little castle is probably just the clubhouse of this golf course or some random building.
