Best yokai game? #musya #snes #retrogaming
The setting of Musya is based on Japanese folklore. This means that Imoto has to fight all kinds of cool yokai. Now that I am more familiar with Japanese folklore, I recognize some of them. For example, it's funny that the name of the village is Tengu, because you meet some Tengus in the game. They are the most powerful non-boss enemies in the game. If you're familiar with the Ghosts 'n Goblins franchise, they're basically the Red Arremer of this game. The Tengus look pretty cool, but some of the enemies are pretty creepy and feel like they are straight out of a horror movie. For example, there's a giant ant with a human-looking head. But much like RPGs that start with slimes, the first enemy you encounter isn't scary at all. It's just some kind of fireball spirit thing. But right after that, you get attacked by a scary head. It didn't take long for things to get creepy.
