There are four more Grand Prix cups left, and this one is the Egg Cup, the next four are DLC cups in the base game for the Wii U, but as this is the Deluxe version of Mario Kart 8, it has everything from the base game, but with some new additions.
The tracks in the Egg Cup has only one Retro Track and two tracks that reference other Nintendo series, those tracks being GCN Yoshi Circuit, Excitebike Arena, Dragon Driftway, and Mute City.
Yoshi Circuit was one of my favourite tracks in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, the reason is that the track is shaped like Yoshi, and I like the soundtrack in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, and it is good to see the Circuit theme remade into this game, and Yoshi Circuit was also brought back in Mario Kart DS, so this is the third time this track was reused.
Interesting bit of trivia, the Egg Cup is the only Grand Prix cup that does not have a Glider Panel, and none of the tracks have an underwater section, but it is not the first, as the Flower Cup and Special Cup tracks did not have any underwater driving sections.
Excitebike Arena is a good track, as it is a reference to Excitebike for the NES, Dragon Driftway has a really good concept, and Mute City is one of my favourite tracks in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and it is one of two F-Zero tracks in the game, I wonder if F-Zero will be brought back for not having a game in over 15 years.
I use Lakitu for this Grand Prix, if only the Cloud 9 kart from Mario Kart 7 was in this game, as this was Lakitu's kart in Mario Kart 7. The combo I went with in this video is Mr Scooty, which would be called Mr. Scooty outside of Europe, the Slick tires, and the Cloud Glider, and while Lakitu does use that combo as a CPU, he instead uses the Normal tires instead of Slick. For Lakitu's other vehicle combos, his first one is the standard set, his second is the Biddybuggy, or Buggybud in the European version, the kart is based on the Biddybud, an bug-like enemy from Super Mario 3D World, and with the Buggybud is the Monster tires and Parachute. Lakitu's fourth combo is Standard ATV, or Standard Quad in Europe, Standard tires, and Cloud Glider.
Lakitu is a lightweight character in this game, he is in the same weight class as Koopa Troopa, Bowser Jr., and a few others, but at least he is an easy character to control with good acceleration and handling. Lakitu does not have any rivals in the Grand Prix, this was because in the base game, the starting 12 characters had rivals, and Lakitu was an unlockable character in the base game, Lakitu is one of four playable characters that does not have a rival, the others being King Boo, Link, and the Mii, although you never see Mii characters as CPU players.
