So here we are, at the final boss fight for the base worlds. I didn't know what to call this exactly. It's the final boss fight, but it's really only a halfway point in the game. So hopefully this won't be too confusing...

LEVEL DK - DK FIGHT & ENDING

Ok, so when we finish 'World 8 - Twilight City', we're treated to a little cutscene where Donkey Kong realizes his sack of Mini-Mario toys is actually empty. You'd think at this point, his mania would subside and he'd give up. That's where we're wrong!

Instead, DK picks up the trio of tri-colored Toads and creates a two-part boss fight for us. First, we'll have to free the three caged Toads. Each Toad has a different colored cage which corresponds to the same colored key. Above, Donkey Kong cycles through the three colored switches, causing the keys for the other two colors to disappear. Note however, if you're holding a key, it won't disappear as a result of the switch color changing.

Navigate this area, dodging that various barrel-based obstacles. Once you free the three Toads, hang tight. Eventually they'll bring you a large barrel you can use to attack. Climb up the tower carefully and hit DK with it. If you need to, use R to scan above and get a sense of where the incoming barrels are headed.

I believe you only have to hit him three times, unlike the other boss battles where he's had 4 HP. Mario however, has only 1 HP here. He will die if touched by an enemy. The only exception being if he's holding an object. This may be a little time consuming and tedious, but it's definitely do-able.

After the battle, DK will fall from the tower onto a van parked on the street full of... you guessed it... Mini-Mario toys! So DK once again fills his bag full of these toys and once again runs off.

Where does he head to first? Hehe, we'll... you're going to laugh. You'll never guess, but he heads back to the first world, Mario Toy Company! We've now unlocked the Plus Worlds, which allows us to play through the game again with a twist!

We'll be visiting these new levels soon, but I wouldn't mind adding another game to the mix. Maybe some 'Princess Peach: Showtime!'.
