During the Leviathan DLC in Mass Effect 3, Commander Shepard makes contact with Leviathan - a race of super-intelligent aquatic life forms who are responsible for the creation of the Reapers. While Leviathan was almost entirely wiped out by the Reapers millions of years ago, several of them were able to survive and propagate. They hid in remote parts of the galaxy and wiped away all traces of their existence to prevent the Reapers from discovering and harvesting the last of their kind.
Shepard manages to convince Leviathan that this cycle is different and recruits them to join the fight against the Reapers. All well and good right? For the moment, this is a fruitful alliance but there are a number of red flags, if you will, that raise concerns about the long-term integration of Leviathan into the galactic community.
