Right so the plan was to split at Battlemaster so that I could link this for the Infiltrator leveling guide (as the first plot world section is about leveling to be able to deal with him), but this one turned out a bit lame as he just stayed by the odd-shaped cover.
In general he won't engage you until you kill the Geth, unless you attack him first. Beware splash damage, especially Sabotage early. Really as long as you have Advanced Throw, Advanced Lift, or Neural Shock you should be able to ragdoll him and so it isn't a big deal when he charges you. If you don't have one of those, it is a problem.
If you have Marksman, then the Stinger II has adequate DPS for him as long as you fight him early game. But Stinger is more or less like a "rare" pistol, if they actually labeled tiers in ME1. Crappy pistols, like Elkoss junk may not work very well.
