Matilda is een Amerikaanse fantasy-komedie uit 1996, gecoproduceerd en geregisseerd door Danny DeVito, naar een scenario van Nicholas Kazan en Robin Swicord, gebaseerd op de gelijknamige roman uit 1988 van Roald Dahl. In de film speelt Mara Wilson het titelpersonage, met DeVito zelf (die ook een dubbele rol als verteller vervulde), Rhea Perlman, Embeth Davidtz en Pam Ferris in bijrollen. De plot draait om het titulaire wonderkind dat psychokinetische vaardigheden ontwikkelt en deze gebruikt om met haar beruchte familie en de tirannieke directeur van haar school om te gaan.
Matilda werd op 2 augustus 1996 in de Verenigde Staten uitgebracht door Sony Pictures Releasing onder hun TriStar Pictures-label. De film kreeg positieve recensies van critici, waarbij de lof werd gericht op de trouw aan de roman en de regie van DeVito. De film was een teleurstelling aan de kassa en bracht $ 47 miljoen op met een budget van $ 36 miljoen, maar Matilda kreeg vervolgens een grotere populariteit nadat hij op homevideo was uitgebracht.
