Notes on the run and running Mavis Beacon:
---
This was perfomed on Version 16 Deluxe. Time starts on first character typed, time ends on closing the last victory textbox. When you pick an age bracket, this affects the word pool used for typing games, as does playing any non-game lessons. This run uses a new user that's never played a non-game lesson, with the lowest age bracket for shorter words, with a target WPM expectation of the minimum value of 25.

This run is actually surprisingly RNG heavy, which, to avoid resets, led to larger than expected mistakes and slowdowns being accepted, particularly on Ride the Wave. Most punishing is Far-off Adventures, which has three possible destinations of Stonehenge, Egypt, or Pagoda. Any location besides Pagoda is a multiple second timeloss due to longer unskippable cutscenes. To minimize time spent losing 2/3rds of your runs, it should likely be attempted early in the run.

One time save and RNG mitigator is to use "E spam" for finishing the three races levels, "Road Race", "Shark Attack", and "Ride the wave". This is significantly faster then actually typing - but doing so is RNG as you get a limited budget of mistakes per race, and without foreknowledge of remaining characters you have to guess how many characters remain till the exercise's end.

Due to character frequencies, though, holding E means you're able to stretch this budget ~10% further, as E will most frequently be the next valid expected character. Besides having faster typing speed, further improvement on these races will likely come from more riskily pressing your luck to approach, but not exceed, your max error budget.

To save other runners wasted analysis time - on Creature Lab, the head of your animal is determined by the final three DNA strands you choose. The head seems to determine the final animal animation length and sound effects played. All 10 animals when measured, EXCEPT the Pterodactyl, whose animation is notably several seconds longer, seem to have the same animation time - and therefore specific DNA components can (mostly) be safely ignored.

Technical notes for interested runners
---

The autorun and launcher don't work anymore, but the executable can be successfully loaded from the disk image at "HD\Mavis\mavisDlx.exe". Window capture doesn't work, but OBS Full screen recording was able to record gameplay footage successfully. I was unable to find a way to get LiveSplit to either appear on screen or update ongoingly when the game was running in full-screen low-resolution compatibility mode, but global hotkeys still will work for your personal split tracking. Mavis does not seem to render successfully when played on a machine connected to two monitors, showing only a black screen while playing audio. Projecting to a single monitor fixes this. User deletion in-game is broken, but you can delete users manually from C:\ProgramData\Broderbund\Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing Deluxe 16.
