---------- OVERALL ----------
Max Payne 3 is an absolute blast. Not only did Rockstar bring back the beloved franchise to this generation, they made sure it played like the older games. All of the new additions to modernize the experience for todays gamers did not interfere with what makes Max Payne, Max Payne.
Max Payne 3 is dark, gruesome, mature, and down right sick. At times, it feels like your watching a movie thanks to the powerful EUPHORIA engine which presents what is possibly the best animations in gaming. When enemies die, they literally "die". The engine presents realistic, believable movement you'd typically only find in live action movies.
Max Payne 3 from a story perspective tries something new. While the older games are about Max himself and his troubled life, Max Payne 3 takes place in a later time with Max trying to move on. Things obviously don't work out so well as Max finds himself once again in the middle of another dark and twisted situation.
Death is not something Max can escape, as it surrounds him where ever he goes. Take control of Max and uncover the dark secrets of his employers and enemies in this action thriller. The story is over 12 hours long and never slows down. Your always kicking ass with Max and his trade mark Slow Motion and Dual Wield Pistols. Once your done with the Story, you can re-visit it in Arcade Mode or on a Harder Difficulty. Arcade Mode offers 2 ways of playing revolving around scoring points and time attack which can than be compared with your friends or through Global Ranks.
Max Payne 3 offers online, but in all honesty, it's very weak. Standard game modes and few unique modes don't help the online stand out over stronger online 3rd person shooters like Gears of War 3 and Uncharted 3. Some customization and the ability to use Slow Motion online didn't feel at all special to me. The servers are lag filled and losing connection is a common thing. Also the left analong stick seems to be quite delayed as well, whilst online. All in all, the online should not be bothered with unless you want to try something other than the more popular games.
The online portion did not hinder the score because like everyone else, I purchased Max Payne 3 for it's epic Story Mode. I can say with a smile on my face, that it was worth every penny.
Final Verdict - 9/10
