Such a well put together story, with excellent pacing that keeps the player intrigued. Side quest feel like main story quest and the characters of this world come to life within the missions, with proper script writing that feels honest and true.
No matter how powerful you become, you never feel like a walking tank. Being out numbered is never a good thing and the required planning before battles is a welcome touch. Fighting is sophisticated and mild paced, forcing the player to make the right decisions or succumb to the Game Over screen for dumb mistakes.
One of the best aspects of the game is that's it's both linear and not. The world is not exactly a sandbox but your free to approach the game as you please, making decisions that will effect the game as a whole. The developers did a great job keeping the player in line and never to far from what's most important.
This is one of the first games I've played where simple choices literally, LITERALLY change the game. Depending on the choices you make in a previous chapter, the following can play out differently every play through.
Like other RPG's, The Witcher 2 has it's upgrade system. Leveling up and completing quest rewards the player with Skill Points which will than be used on a simple skill tree divided between Sword Skills/Magic Skills/Alchemy Skills (utilize potions and gain better benefits from oils). The highest level is 35, which by than you will be at the end of this amazing experience.
Gold is not east to come by, unless of course your an experienced RPG gamer that knows the tricks of the trade as to crafting and looting. It's all worth it though, as taking the time to craft and find the best weapons and armor will turn Geralt to the ultimate Witcher.
Between important missions, the player is treated to wonderfully drawn, blood and gore filled, comic style pieces with a narrator explaining the events of things to come or what is going on at the time. Each of these cut scenes will send a chill down your spine, as the epic soundtrack along with the intense drawings make for quite the show.
I played The Witcher 2 on the Xbox 360, and it played wonderfully. I experiencing little no graphical issues. Some pop-in's here and there and the occasional screen tear did not distract me from this title. The menu system might take some getting used to and the controls at times felt unresponsive in combat. Nothing serious at all though to lower any reviewers final score.
This is easily a contender for GOTY and should not be missed by RPG enthusiast. This is not an easy game though. While not on par with games like Demon's/Dark Souls in terms of difficulty, mistakes are not tolerated. Those looking for a strong script, memorable characters, and a mature, mid-evil experience should not skip The Witcher 2.
