Maxwell Nelson: On Days Gone By for solo viola
On Days Gone By for solo viola was composed by Maxwell Nelson in July 2020 as a part of the Curtis Young Artist Summer Program (YASP).
The composer's words,
"Maxwell Nelson considered himself to be a violist long before he ever considered himself to be a composer. That being said, since On Days Gone By was a piece for solo viola, the piece had already been brought close to Max’s heart. The piece was written while posing the question: “As the days go by, what changes and what stays the same?”. As he experienced, sometimes days quite literally blur together. And in this realization and observation of the experience, he posed that question to himself. The melodies and harmonic hues presented in this piece embrace his thoughts and feelings when truly considering the question and serve as his response."
