In the aftermath of the concerning events around my Feb. 4, 2025 delegation before the RM of Springfield, it appears there may be attempts to limit residents from being able to document or record events in the public chamber, where the public meetings occur. This video is meant to help the public understand what is happening here and to document this event. This all occurred during the Call to Order at the very start of the meeting, after Mayor Therrien directed residents (worth noting, there were only two residents in the audience,) to not record video with their phones, which was not what was discussed on Feb. 4, 2025.
In short, a resident recorded my public delegation in a public place, Mayor Therrien seemed to have taken issue with this after I produced a video that included the footage (after I asked that resident for a copy, where I got explicit permission from the resident). I would consider this related to the items around Procedure By-Law 24-10, as the Mayor is insistent the By-Law prohibits the public from recording meetings in the chamber, despite saying the resident was not media on Feb. 4, 2025.
