The first twelve titles in the series are set during the historical period of the Second World War, while two of them focus on modern wars, on the fight against terrorism. The franchise's soundtrack was composed by Michael Giacchino, Christopher Lennertz and Ramin Djawadi. The series began in 1999 with the release of Medal of Honor. The game was developed by DreamWorks Interactive with the story of filmmaker Steven Spielberg. The game was released for the PlayStation console on October 31, 1999.[2] Spielberg's inspiration for the series came during the direction and production of the film Saving Private Ryan. Much of the film's sound effects (such as gunshots, screams, and explosions) were used in the game and reused in subsequent titles. In the original 1999 game, the player controls Lieutenant Jimmy Patterson, a soldier and agent linked to the OSS, a secret United States military organization created during the Second World War. Jimmy works undercover while carrying out a series of sabotage and combat missions against Nazi Germany's war machine
