Defence Secretary Philip Hammond recently approved a parliamentary review into women filling close combat roles on the frontline. At the moment they are not allowed to join the Army as infantry fighters. America's decision to lift that ban last year has prompted the UK to look at the issue again. However, many women are attached to infantry units in specific roles such as medics or dog handlers and are already taking part in some of the toughest frontline fighting operations.
