After having a conversation with Carlos, we get Olf freed and start poking around Alvaro's place. I think I know what I need to do now.

Developer Piranha Bytes, in an effort to return to their origins and with a desire to make up for the later installments in the Gothic franchise, released Risen on October 2, 2009. The Deep Silver-published title follows a new Nameless Hero (similar to how the hero of the Gothic games also had a name unknown to others). Controls are something like a hybrid of those from Gothic and Risen 2: W, A, S, and D for movement; LMB to "use" an item (pick up something highlighted, attack with a drawn weapon, or open or consume an item within your inventory; Spacebar to jump; and so forth. There is also the ability to look behind you (I assume, while running, like in Gothic 2), although the key for this is be default unassigned.
When humanity gained more power than the gods, they banished their former deities from the world. This had the unexpected side effect of releasing ancient enemies of the gods, the titans, who had been imprisoned in the bowels of the world.
As the beings rise from the depths of the earth and sea, the Inquisition — taking on themselves some kind of savior role — begins rounding people up to "protect" them from the threat. The Nameless Hero finds himself on a ship leaving Gaurus with an Inquisition mage, when it is attacked by a large sea titan. When the Inquisitor's efforts to stop the titan fail, he quickly teleports away, leaving the ship to be broken up and swallowed by the ocean. He wakes up some time later with Sara, another stowaway, washed up on the beach of the island of Faranga, not far from his home.
Faranga is populated by groups of humans whose goals are at odds with each other. But an even greater danger looms. Recently, an ancient temple's ruins have come up out of the ground, and the factions are in disagreement about what should be done. Do you follow the dictates of the Inquisition? Should you side with the bandits? Care to test your skill with crystal magic? Once you choose a side, you will have to live with your choice. Not only will others be less likely to help, but you will have to rely on training from your faction for survival, both above the ground and within the caverns and catacombs that may await beneath the temple.
Let's play and see what all has Risen from beneath the ground.
